Vembanad Lake
One of the largest lakes in India, Vembanad is best experienced from the premises of your lakefront room at Illikkalam, or on a boat cruise. The lake changes its character depending on the time of day and the season. It is calm and quiet early in the morning, but as the sun rises, the breeze picks up, and endless waves journey toward the bank, which is about 10 meters from your room. The lake's nature changes during rain, wherein you can see the arrival of rain from far away in the Lake, which is quite a sight to watch

Formerly known as Baker's Estate and currently managed by the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation. Spanning 14 acres, the bird sanctuary is home to both local and migratory birds, with migratory species typically spotted from November to February. A 1.5 km walk along the sanctuary's walkway at 6:30 a.m. offers the best chance to see them, while cruising in a Shikara boat along the surrounding canals provides a similar experience.

Bay Island Driftwood Museum, 4 km
Unique and beautiful sculptures have been crafted from driftwood collected since 1980 along the Andaman coast. The founder shares interesting stories about each piece, helping visitors feel a deep connection to the art. Since the practice of collecting driftwood is no longer allowed, this collection has become the largest of its kind in the world.

Pathiramanal island (5.5 km into the Lake)
Literally meaning "midnight sand," legend has it that it first appeared at midnight. This hidden gem, a small (69-acre) uninhabited island in the middle of Vembanad Lake, is famous for its seasonal migratory birds and can be seen during a boat cruise on the lake.

Malarikkal Water Lilies, 12 km
This location is open only in August and September. It is better to visit in early August, as the site becomes less attractive toward the end of the season when people begin plucking the flowers. The recommended visiting time is between 6 AM and 9 AM.

Aruvikkuzhi Waterfalls, 35 km
The waterfall measures about 30 ft in height and is active only during the monsoon season. In summer, the river almost dries up.
